Tracking Investments in Multiple Currencies

If your money is spread across countries and currencies, a single-currency tracker hides your real picture. Here's how to do it right.

Plenty of people hold assets in more than one currency — an immigrant with savings back home, an investor with US stocks and local property, or anyone working abroad. Tracking that cleanly is surprisingly hard with most tools, which assume everything is in one currency.

The core problem

If you simply add up numbers from different currencies, you get a meaningless total. A portfolio of "₹10,000,000 + $50,000 + CA$100,000" isn't a number until you convert everything to a common currency at current exchange rates. And those rates move, so the total shifts even when your holdings don't.

What good multi-currency tracking looks like

How Auralia handles it

In Auralia, every asset is tagged with its own currency. Your dashboard shows one converted total in whatever display currency you pick (CAD, USD, INR and more), plus a "Summary by Currency" card that breaks down exactly how much you hold — and how it's performing — in each currency separately. You can switch the display currency anytime, and adjust exchange rates by hand if you prefer.

The result is the thing multi-currency investors rarely get: a single honest number, without losing the detail underneath it.

A note on rates

Remember that your converted total will fluctuate with exchange rates even when your underlying investments are steady. That's not a bug — it reflects the real purchasing power of a global portfolio. Watching both the converted total and the per-currency view gives you the full story.
